Formed in 2010, The Phoenix Piano Trio has established itself as one of the leading ensembles of today. Their highly successful debut season in 2011 included over twenty concerts across the UK as part of their “Beyond Beethoven” cycle, performing all of Beethoven’s works for Piano Trio. They are regularly invited to perform at the Wigmore Hall, where they launched their first CD in 2012 – described in Strings Magazine as having “a musical narrative of tremendous, involving depth.”
Violinist Jonathan Stone is an acclaimed chamber musician, soloist and orchestral leader, and a regular visitor to the Wigmore Hall. He is well known to KCMS as a member of the Doric String Quartet.
Christian Elliot (cello) is also a member of the Zehetmair Quartet, which performs string quartets written as late as the mid-20th century from memory at venues throughout Europe. Christian joined the Phoenix Piano Trio in August 2014 and also works a composer with an international following.
The pianist Sholto Kynoch is much sought-after. He specialises in chamber music and song accompaniment . In addition to a busy performance schedule which takes him to leading international venues and Festivals in the UK and abroad, he is the founder and Artistic Director of the Oxford Lieder Festival.
