Ligeti Études, Book 1
Beethoven Diabelli Variations
Pianist Joonas Ahonen has rapidly gained attention for brilliant performances of contemporary music as well as for his Beethoven interpretations on historical pianos. Ahonen is based in Vienna and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles such as the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Avanti! and Ictus. His programme brings together two piano writing giants who inhabited different musical worlds and eras but who both wrote and lived in Vienna, and KCMS is delighted to be presenting this concert, appropriately, at the Austrian Cultural Forum. We celebrate the 250th year of Beethoven’s birth with his monumental Diabelli Variations.
‘Joonas Ahonen played the whimsical Ligeti Piano Concerto as if it were Mozart, perfectly relaxed and with astonishing ease.’ De Standaard
With particular thanks to Patrick Hanagan for his support of this recital.
