Robert Schumann Dichterliebe
World-renowned tenor James Gilchrist and pianist William Vann have jointly curated an enticing programme of song for Winter 2024-25. The first half of their recital brings together some of the finest of 20th century English song writing, concluding with one of Benjamin Britten’s most approachable song cycles, Winter Words. In the second half, by contrast, we delve into the world of German Lieder with Robert Schumann’s monumental Dichterliebe (‘A Poet’s Love’). Setting poetry by Heinrich Heine, we are taken on a journey through the highs and the lows of love, as seen through the lens of a poet himself.
